Better Days

Anyone afflicted with Seasonal Affective Disorder Yet? Here's a scene from a nicer day at White River State Park.

Indianapolis Neighborhoods - South Garfield Park / South Village / Madison Ave Pt.2

Part 2: North of Manual High School.

Manual High School

Sidewalk by Manual High School. I guess this gelatenous, icy concoction is better than no sidewalk at all. It also frequently floods ( > 1.5'' of water) here when it rains.

Pleasant Run...Not so pleasant sign.

Didn't you guys read the sign?

Across Pleasant Run to South Village. When in season, this area is quite wooded and shaded.

Westerly on Pleasant Run Pkwy toward South Village.

Easterly on Pleasant Run Pkwy toward Garfield Park.

View of the power plant, South Village.

Ramp to the Manual Stadium

Some of the new Mural Designs along the Stadium. These murals won some Guinness World Records and really lifts up what was a very depressing area of Madison Ave.

Very interesting indeed.

The farthest Northern end of the stadium.

Velcro Prozac?

I think I have an unhealthy fixation with old railroad bridges. Love the vain attempt to mask the obscenities below.

I look at this a lot when I drive by it, but was able to get an up close look. The constructors must have been pretty small in stature, because I would have trouble making my way through it.

Glad I didn't try.

You can look up and see the the two sides of the neighborhood that Madison divided.

Uh Yeah....

Colorful Pallets

These houses and buildings have personality

The Indy skyline from the under Raymond Street Bridge.
This close up should have been in part 1, but forgot I had it at the time. This building gives the entire area a little personality.

These neighborhoods like many other old south side neighborhoods are just now being rediscovered. The building above appears to have very few vacancies, the large murals provided by Lilly, and the demolition of blighted buildings are all signs that the neighborhood still lives.

Indianapolis Neighborhoods - South Garfield Park / South Village / Madison Ave Pt.1

This south side neighborhood sits between Garfield Park and the South Meridian/Concord neighborhood I featured last month. This area has become blighted over the years; sacrificed in the pre-interstate era of using Madison Ave as an expressway to allow for large amounts of automobile traffic to come from and go to the south side. A mile long trench was dug through the neighborhood to allow for this. Much like many older and neglected neighborhoods around Indy, it has its own unique charm.

Part 1 : South of Manual High school

Intersection of Madison Ave and Pleasant Run Pkwy.

Like the door says; be sure to bring your credit cards.

Madison Ave Flowers. I would have liked to see that neon sign back when it was in its prime.

Ruins, yes...But has nothing to do with Greek mythology
Lone trash can in the alley.

I like this building.

Close to Manual High school

Let's get a closer look.

Madison Ave; never really noticed this while driving before.

This portolet has a view of the Indy skyline.

Near Madison and Troy avenues.

Do you really? You could show some good faith by doing something about that faded, gigantic billboard.

Skyline from Madison Ave.

We have a "Magnificent Mile"? Cool!

North on Madison.

Yesterday's Sky

Did anyone notice the sky yesterday evening? It had the most interesting cloud and sunset formations.

Took this while waiting at a light.

Sunset from my front porch.

When using the slowest shutter speed, the moon starts to look like the sun.

Indianapolis Skyline

From the White River Parkway on the west side of the White River.

Indiana weather and all its glory. From Newyork Street.
