Culver Viaduct Discontinuation Syndrome

Long needed, ongoing construction on the Culver Viaduct has caused an array of disruption of G and F train riders in South Brooklyn.  The most persistent of these disruptions has been the closing of the Smith-9th Station.  I'm not a resident of Gowanus, but I can only image how much they want their Smith-9th Station back.  Its been even worse for Red Hook, whom have no direct subway service, that station is the closest link.  According to the MTA, this should reopen in Fall 2012, but then again, it was originally supposed to open by Summer of 2012.

An Entire Viaduct...Re-Packaged

The renovation of the Culver Viaduct in Southern Brooklyn is still in progress.  Here are a few random trivia items about this location:

1. This is the highest spot in elevation in the New York Transit system.

2. If you’ve seen the Goodfellas, this is location, towards the end of the film where Robert De Niro offers Lorraine Bracco some articles of clothing before she freaks out and runs…

Mess in front of the Diner

Nothing contributes to the feel of a gritty urban scene like steam coming up from the street.  Construction is occurring in front of the Pear Diner; located on Pearl Street in the Financial District and near the Seaport of Lower Manhattan.

Upper East Side Kaboom

No, not a product being verbosely obnoxiously pitched by by the late Billy Mays, but the ongoing construction of the 2nd Avenue Subway construction on the Upper East Side.  This shot was taken last year on, you guessed it, 2nd Avenue, but the street is in similar condition and will be for some time.

Regular Service will be Restored....When we Say So

I just love waiting 30-60 minutes for the G train to come. They can only run one train at a time in each direction because the track is in use by these fellas. I know maintenance must be done and such things can cause inconvenience, so I sat there motionless...waiting until the next train came (they did the exact same). Classic MTA.

Restoration

The restoration of the Central Avenue Methodist Chuch is underway. This chuch is located at the corner of 12th and Central in the Old Northside neighborhood.

Abandon Stretch

On Washington Street, near the new I-65/70 interchange and Southeastern Avenue. I've always loved this stretch, but hope that the new, beast of an interchange in the area doesn't seal it's fate of having an abandoned status for the rest of it's days. At this point, it is neither easy or safe to get to it from downtown.

One in every crew...
