Culver Viaduct Discontinuation Syndrome

Long needed, ongoing construction on the Culver Viaduct has caused an array of disruption of G and F train riders in South Brooklyn.  The most persistent of these disruptions has been the closing of the Smith-9th Station.  I'm not a resident of Gowanus, but I can only image how much they want their Smith-9th Station back.  Its been even worse for Red Hook, whom have no direct subway service, that station is the closest link.  According to the MTA, this should reopen in Fall 2012, but then again, it was originally supposed to open by Summer of 2012.

Its Bad...

Waiting here for the next train to arrive for 45 minutes at 2 AM is bad, but this the abandoned platform where Michael Jackson shot the 'I'm bad' music video. This platfrom also served as terminus for special express train service to JFK several years ago. Shot at the Hoyt-Schermerhorn in downtown Brooklyn.

I've seen many examples of people attempting to create a two-way dialogue with the MTA service changes that greet you on night and weekends.  What can only be described as an entity that slightly resembles Slimer, questioning its merit; that would be a first.  Taken from the Bedford-Nostrand subway station, one of the few stations in my neighborhood.

Regular Service will be Restored....When we Say So

I just love waiting 30-60 minutes for the G train to come. They can only run one train at a time in each direction because the track is in use by these fellas. I know maintenance must be done and such things can cause inconvenience, so I sat there motionless...waiting until the next train came (they did the exact same). Classic MTA.

"Selling women's shoes" can really take a lot out of a man. Kind of a marvel here, for I can barely fit in these seats sitting upright, let alone laying across them...

Scenes from Flushing Avenue Station

These photos were taken at the Flushing Avenue station, which is located at the corner of Flushing and Union Avenues in the Bed-Stuy neighborhood of Brooklyn. This station is part of the IND Crosstown Line (Brooklyn and Queens), which is the only major NYC subway line that doesn't enter Manhattan.
