Urban Nature

When I was a child, I had a fascination with thistles(not sure if that's proper plural form). They are like many things in life; they have a certain grace to them that draws you to touch them, but you assume some liabilities in doing so...

Those are musk thistles. You can eat the stems, the part close to the flowers is tender enough to eat. Peel off the tough rind of the stem like a banana peel, and the pith inside with the texture of a cucumber is edible. Be careful of the thorns.
