Semi-Secret Passage

Semi-secret as in seen by many, but not readily accessible.  There's a spot of the West End line in Brooklyn, near Sunset Park when the D train enters a fragmented set of tunnels before it becomes elevated.  I was lucky enough to have a nice mix of filthy train car windows and rain give serve as a nice texture to enhance the photograph's mood.

Spring Teaser

Spring has partially arrived in the form of 1 to 2 days a week, but its total embrace still eludes us all.  This shot was taken in the West Village area of Manhattan.

Another Snow Storm / Manhattan Snow Globe

Snow storms have hit all over the United States in the past few days. Just as New York City has been recovering from the 12/26/10 blizzard, another 8-9 inches of snow was delivered to the region. I was at a friends apartment in Manhattan during the storm, and just as predictably as Mayor Bloomberg would recite the words "rest assured", I took my camera to the roof.

Winter Has its Eye Set on Bed Stuy

Excited to shoot some of my first winter shots of the season, I shot down the stoop past one of my shivering neighbors into the action. This is as far as I got, which is for the record, is only one block from my apartment. I don't mind the cold, but the frigid wind stopped me in my tracks and called a quits when my glasses fogged up to the point where I could no longer see. I'm considering procuring a ski mask in the future to shoot in these conditions and be sure to avoid the cops ;)

Autumn in Brooklyn

A recent hail storm quickened the leaf fall to the sidewalks. A contact of mine on Flickr likened it to cream spinach, I'm inclined to agree. Taken on Fort Greene Place, in where else, Ft. Greene, Brooklyn.

My Account of the Brooklyn Tornado

Brooklyn was hit a unconfirmed tornado the other day during a set of thunderstorms that rolled though the city. The shot below was taken shortly after on the street corner by my apartment in Bed Stuy, which mainly suffered some downed branches or varying sizes, but other neighborhoods weren't quite as lucky. Park Slope was one of the hardest hit neighborhoods where trees and street lights were ripped from the ground and a person in Queens was killed.

I was walking to the subway as this storm was beginning. Being a Midwest native, where severe storms are taken much more for granted during the months of March - October, I noticed the winds and ominous green sky were making the people caught out on the sidewalks understandably nervous. But not me! (sinister laugh here) Show me a gigantic wall cloud sporting a tornadic appendage and maybe we'll talk. Things got a little more bizarre once I was in the subway station. My station is the Bedford-Nostrand Station, which is a gigantic subterranean hallway that runs a few block span between Bedford and Nostrand Avenues. The peak of the storm hit while I was traversing this, newly formed, wind tunnel. Trash and newspapers streamed by as my hand clung to my head to protect my face from a rogue New York Times and so I wouldn't loose my hat. I continued to board the train, met with my friend in Manhattan, and didn't even give it a second thought until I came back home that night and saw the news.

The only evidence of a storm at the corner of DeKalb and Spencer is a wet street.

Midwest Sky

Both these shots were taken in Indianapolis, which during all seasons, possesses the ability to flash us some wicked skies. From beautiful icy glazed sunsets in the winter to ominous tornado spawning wall clouds in the spring and summer, the midwest has it all...

This first shot was taken at the I-65/Delaware Street interchange with downtown in the background. A storm was rolling in while a sunset was in progress...


Its always an interesting phenomenon when an overcast sky features large Cumulus clouds... Taken near 16th and Illinois by Methodist Hospital...

Miracle on 52nd Street

These were all taken at the corner of 52nd and College near Broad Ripple Village... I put quite a bit of detail in these shots, including snow and are best if viewed large (what a surprise huh?).

Stopped at Taste for breakfast, ended up having the bacon cheddar quiche; although it tasted great, I doubt its the healthiest thing around ;)

Blindly awaiting for sustenance; the glasses come off, because I hate wearing them when I shoot, but its a catch-22 because I can't see to operate the camera with them off..Oh well, I make it work.

It arrives, camera goes off, glasses go on :)
