Off the Beaten Path...

Just outside of Beech Grove and right off the Amtrak grounds on Emerson Avenue is an ancient railroad underpass. Although its probably not quite as old as this one, but its in far better condition and stamped with the year of 1912...

Subway Street runs under this overpass...

Accumulated Calcification and eroded concrete from dripping water; in essence, mini-stalactites...

Subway St and it's branches used to be the route you had to take to get out of Beech Grove going north when not using Sherman Dr. Turn off Bethel at 2nd, past the Newcomer Lumber yard (single story red brick building), follow the jogs in the road, through the tiny underpasses and either head up Emerson or east to Arlington. This was before Arlington connected between Troy and Hanna/Churchman Ave.
