Indianapolis Neighborhoods : South Village

The neighborhood of South Village is located just south of the South Meridian Neighborhood. The neighborhood is a working class neighborhood similar to South Meridian, but not quite as old...

The always inviting Pleasant Run flows through the neighborhood. Although there is only one in the shot, I believe I spotted four shopping carts half buried under the mud...

One of the most distinct features of this neighborhood is that the street names are inscribed on their sidewalks...

That and the large selection of mature trees...

Several cemeteries as well...Many of my ancestors are buried here...

Here's how the house are situated around the neighborhood...

Some of the streets here have some significant hills, by Indianapolis terrain standards.

Some random things that caught my attention...

Why eat lunch when you can drink it?
Ha Ha!

The north most part of the neighborhood, on the other side of the underpass is the S. Meridian Neighborhood. Meridian Street, through South Village uses a more primitive form of traffic control that Fall Creek Pkwy does on the Northeast side...

Nicely done. I still want to visit Barringer's for a beer lunch someday.

Thanks! I've visited the place across the street from it, which at the time was called Melody, or something like that a few years ago...

Cool find with those street names on the sidewalks. I saw some of those up around Fall Creek and the Old St. Vincent Hospital and was surprised when everybody starting telling me about all the locations those can be found around city!

Those inlaid tile street signs are also present in Irvington. I would be a nice urban restoration project to be able to repair them.
