Indianapolis Houses, Irvington Neighborhood

I've always been fascinated with this house; off of Emerson Avenue, close to E. Washington Street.

Reminds me of the old mansions you see on Main St. in New Albany.

I wish it wasn't so cold that day, I wonder if all of it's sides looked that way

That is one of my favorite houses in the neighborhood, it's great at night when the old lamps in the front yard are lit.

My gram lived near there, and growing up I was always half-scared/half-intrigued by this house. It reminded me of a spooky haunted house you'd see in a movie.

This is the Buford-Riches house at 5031 E. English, in the Christian Park neighborhood straight south of Howe High School.

It is occupied, but yes...it does look a bit tattered. Being next door to a 7-11 (at English & Emerson) doesn't help.

There is another landmark house in the neighborhood, the Horner House at 410 S. Emerson (a block north on Emerson at Brookville) which is unoccupied and in a sad state of repair.

A third historic home, the Thomas Moore House, is west on Brookville at Pleasant Run.

The fourth site in the neighborhood is Christian Park School at 4700 English.

All four are listed on the Center Township historic sites and structures inventory as "outstanding" examples.

I've not yet explored around New Albany, but have heard much about the architecture. In my opinion, it is one of the coolest houses in Indianapolis, and with a little work, it would look awesome.

Thanks Anonymous for the info on the house and some of the other historical homes in the neighborhood, and will keep my eyes (and camera lens) open the next time I'm on the East side.
