Delaware Street Experiment

Anyone who has spent some time at the City County Building would instantly recognize this place. This is N. Delaware Street, between Washington and Market Streets, an area with some rather old architecture. I was experimenting with some slow shutter speeds, and came up with two similarly composed shots; the first being highly contrasted and monotone, and the other being highly saturated with color. I think I like the first shot better.

Old Madison, East Street, via Raymond...

Looking upon the Madison Avenue expressway from Raymond Street.

Old Madison and Raymond Street; this was of course Madison Avenue before it was converted into an expressway.
Looking east on Raymond Street toward Garfield Park.

The old Fireside South; my parents are good friends with the people who used to own and operate this place.

Taken from East Street on the far south end of the Bates-Hendricks area. It now serves as a document archival and management facility.

X Marks the Spot

I am taking another step in my effort of integrating my blog with my Flick photostream. I am beginning to geotag my photos, which can be used in several cool ways. You can get the location of photos you see here clicking the photo, and clicking here allows you to search photos by map view. I will also be going through the backfile of my photostream and geotagging them as I can.

The beginning of Autumn in Fountain Square

The changes in the day cycle are already apparent; the days are getting shorter, the leaves are changing color, and the 'fall clouds' have arrived.

These two shots were taken on Morris Street, just west of Shelby Street.

Washington Street, Front and Center

This stretch of Washington Street that runs through the heart of the Wholesale district is slowly beginning to see new life. Several restaurants have called this stretch of some of the oldest buildings in downtown home.

This end needs some work although the shadow casted by the Barnes and Thornburg building performs a merciful service for the McQuat building.
I've been experimenting with usings flickr with this blog; I have made notes on the flickr page for some of these images; feel free to leave some of your own if you would like. Clicking each image will link to their respective flickr page.

On E. North Street

It was a beautiful day on Saturday; the lighting that occurs during an autumn sky makes for some surreal looking shots. These were taken in the vicinity of College Avenue...

Looking west on North Street.

Southwest corner of College Avenue and North Street.

Luxury Condo Fail.

These are the signs I grew up with...The big green ones aren't much more interesting, but are in better condition.

Another Riley Tower dwarfing smaller buildings shot...Whoo hoo!

Entrance

Built in 1910, the W.H. Block building was once its own department store, sits near the intersection of Illinois and Market. The building now hosts stores and high-end apartments on the top floors.

Near 9th and Delaware

This was one of my favorite childhood stores back in the day...

Completely abandoned, boarded up, and for sale; it may still be a while for this building with the current economy...

I have linked these images to their Flickr source page, which will allow you to view larger sizes, and have access to other cool collaboration tools.

Illinois and Walnut

When walking down Illinois Street, I noticed something I never noticed before...This building, which is right along the new stretch of the Cultural Trail, has a pink outline around each entrance. I have walked by this location countless times and never noticed...

Wasted Beer

Hey, what do you know, two consecutive downtown alleyways in two days...This particular alleyway was shot near Meridian Street, behind the cluster that includes Roberts.

Pearl Street Alleyway

This alleyway is located between Pennsylvania and Meridian going north and south; Maryland and Washington Streets going east and west.

16th and Alabama

The sky has been quite agreeable and photogenic the past few days. This silhouette is looking west down 16th Street right before sunset.

I have linked this image to its source page on Flickr. When there, you will be able to view larger sizes, look at tag data, and one of the most exciting features is the ability to create notes on the photograph (if you have a Flickr account you can make notes as well).

Lockerbie Walk

I decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather yesterday afternoon and went for a walk though Lockerbie Square. The clouds were quite prominant and the sun was beginning to set which made for a successful photo shoot; here are some of the best ones...
