Urban Nature

Not all urban nature is pleasant; here are a few examples from the Kentucky and McCarty area:

A blooming mosquito metropolis...

Poison ivy and rust...

Poison ivy is a great plant, it shows the most spectacularly beautiful fall colors. That monster clump of poison ivy that climbs three stories up the side of that old factory on Kentucky Avenue at McCarty is better than any green roof that costs thousands of dollars.

Botanically speaking, yes, Poison Ivy is a great native ground cover that goes a long way to curb erosion and well, is rather pretty looking. The only problem for me is, that I am deathly allergic to urushiol (the highly viscous irritant found in poison ivy, sumac, oak, and other plants). A hospital stay, IV dexamethasone, and a swollen body that looks almost alien leaves me with a certain aversion to this plant :)
