Fun with Trains

On a walk down the dubiously titled Pleasant Run Trail, I ended up upon a set of tracks that ran through the Citizen's Gas and Coke facility and along the recycling facility on Keystone Avenue and was able to take some shots some train cars that were parked there.

Looking toward downtown.

Old telegraph and signal wires...

I wonder if any knows where the key to this box is located?

?

Coal carrying cars.

Great eye. That first shot is one of the best photos I've ever seen anywhere. Great use of light, dark, and symmetry. And the long view of Riley Tower in the distance marks it as Indianapolis, though it could be anytime in the last 40 years.

I know where you could sell at least one print of that image...

Thanks! I actually surprised and impressed myself with the way that first shot turned out; the weather and lighting were perfect that day.

I've never sold any prints of my work before, but then again no one has ever asked :) If anyone is interested in prints of any of my shots, just send me an email.

There are other places with old wire hanging like this, since it's likely copper wire I always wonder why the scrappers haven't snatched it yet. I suppose to get this high up they'd have a hard time not attracting attention. I'm also going to guess that no one really owns this stuff, the corporation that operated the wires likely went out of business long ago.

The blue stop sign is referred to as "blue flag protection", and it's used for safety purposes. Trains has a write up about it.
