Indianapolis Intersections: Sherman Drive and Pleasant Run Pkwy
One could maintain a blog documenting the Pleasant Run Trail alone. There's many cool places and many unpleasant places as well, but it is always interesting. This section is the stretch that crosses Sherman Drive on the east side.
I ride the short section of the trail from English to Sherman most mornings.. When I hit the trail my mind is at ease for a minute or so then it's back to traffic! :)
A little further on the trail just past brookville is that train bridge with the great arched opening.
Yep...have you ever noticed the kids in the "ol' swimmin' hole" just south of the arch in the summer? There's a rope tied to a tree near the outlet of the box culvert that carries the creek under the street. Too bad they're swimming in s#!+ from CSOs...
I have several pictures of the old viaduct archway (which is very cool btw) which I'm going to use for a future post. I saw the swimming hole you speak of when I was there, although I have not seen many kids swimming in it, but had the same thoughts of 'wow people swim play and swim here', even with a sign that states that there's sewage in the water from the CSO.
There are so many bridges over Pleasant Run, in the summer you can look over the side and watch the crawdads crawling on the bottom of the creek. I don't know what time of year you start seeing them, probably not yet.
