This area lies on almost complete abandon with the exception of a few old structures that have survived mass demolition and decay... All of the exact locations for these shots have been geotagged in flickr.
What a shame. It seems to have a lot of good old commercial/warehouse architecture (if it's not dilapidated). Is there anything left to the residential area of Irish Hill? I always thought of it as being north of Fountain Square and south of Holy Cross, but I'm not sure that leaves much of a community.
Years ago, I came across a newspaper article from around 1895 that covered the death of patrolman Charles Ware in Irish Hill. There was a gang there called the Boo Gang that had been terrorizing the neighborhood. The gang leader was a fellow named Louis Ferriter, who shot Ware when he tried to arrest him.
