Urban Nature

When I was a child, I had a fascination with thistles(not sure if that's proper plural form). They are like many things in life; they have a certain grace to them that draws you to touch them, but you assume some liabilities in doing so...

Meridian and Wilkins

On the south end of downtown, close to Morris Street.

I have included a link to this photo's location on google maps. There have been some requests to do this, so I will be including these on more of my shots.

Indianapolis Neighborhoods - Fountain Square South

A little south and to the east of Fountain Square in the Fountain Square South neighborhood. The neighborhood sits along Pleasant Run and has many features found in many older southside neighborhoods (street names imprinted on sidewalks, small pubs and businesses, and close access to the Pleasant Run Trail)

"I don't like you..." "Well I don't care much for you either..."

Innuendos may be derived here...But I'll take the high road...

I had a surge of patriotism??? Or was it something else??? Sorry, I just couldn't help it...

I went for a walk along the nearby tracks...

The Christian Park Vicinity

Here are some shots of Christian Park and its surrounding on yet another beautiful day...

Something is not right here...

On English Avenue

Sherman and English; someone once ran a red light, and plowed into yours truly at this very intersection a few years ago...Nobody was was hurt; the cars involved... well, that's a different story...

Back when English carried the route of US 52 (pre- I-465), which then merged into Southeastern Avenue (then US 421)...

The sky was gorgeous today!

Including these shot is a bit of a stretch considering that this is about a mile away from Christian Park, but I'm quite fond of this old viaduct bridge...

Thundermutt once referred to this place as the "ol' swimmin' hole"; a popular place for kids to cool off, but beware the CSOs...

Off of Dorman Street, near Cottage Home...Although CSO activity is probably pretty low on a day like this; this is still probably not advisable.

On South Rural Street

This neighborhood is a classic Indianapolis urban neighborhood with many diverse characteristics similar to most neighborhoods around Indy...Well maintained homes, blighted homes, commercial space, and industrial sites are the composition of the fabric.

I know I feature many of these old underpasses on this blog, but they're so cool!

This is what awaits you on the other side of the underpass...

This is probably one of my favorite shots on this blog to date! The question, 'Did I do that?' always makes me feel like a kid again...

How can I show so many skyline shots on this site...Let me count the ways...

On North Shadeland

I never took Karate when I was young, but many of my classmates in school attended classes here. I can't completely remember if this building was something else at one time....While I'm reminiscing about childhood memories, I wonder if the not too far away Rollercave at 21st and Post is still there? I used to attend school rollerskating parties there and would always be limping into school the next day with a black and blue buttocks...

The Northeast 45

Massachusetts Avenue is one of the 45 degree angle streets coming into the square mile of Indianapolis, per Alexander Ralston's original design. This post explores Mass Ave going into the northeast side of Indianapolis.

Near Rural Street...

Near Sherman Drive

When scoping an angle for the previous shot, I spotted the Martin University Performing Arts Center. This shot was originally an experiment, but I liked the composition enough to include it here.

I was interested in the elevation difference between Virginia Avenue and the houses seen here. If you look to the top right, you can see the rooftop of the Lucas Oil Stadium.

Along the White River Greenway

This collection documents approximately the first two miles of the trail; beginning at 10th Street and the Fall Creek Greenway to about 16th Street. I was unable to get a shot of the dam that is a little past the railroad bridge due a dead battery.

I'm not quite sure what's going on here, but this has been ripping up of trees along the river in this section of the banks. There's a lone bench in the area, perhaps they're adding to it.

The water levels on the river are up due to the recent rain; this also means the sewage levels are up as well...
