Indianapolis Intersections - Prospect Street and Pleasant Run Pkwy
This is the intersection of Prospect Street and Pleasant Run Pkwy. On the southeast side of Indianapolis, it is only a few blocks from the old Indianapolis Coke plant. Right by the railroad bridge, there is a park bench that sits by Pleasant Run.
Prospect Street.

The old railroad bridge that is near the intersection. I've observed and have taken so many pictures of the old railroad bridges around town, and no two are exactly alike.

A reader left a comment on a previous post giving me a tip for this location. While I was taking pictures of the Indianapolis Coke plant, I saw this waterfall and remembered their comment. It's an interesting scene to see in an industrial, somewhat dirty area around the plant.

Indianapolis Skyline
Indianapolis' tallest buildings.
The day was clear enough to see The Pyramids, which are a little less than 10 miles away. If you look close enough (closely behind Methodist Hospital), you can see Indianapolis' highest summit in Crown Hill.

Industrial Indianapolis
Indianapolis has many interesting old rust belt relics. I'm already naturally interested in scenes like this, but it does open a door into Indianapolis' past.
Old grain elevator on Sherman Drive and Raymond Street. I found this place to look much more appealing in back and white.

Indianapolis Coke Plant on Prospect Street. I don't know exactly when this place is to be dismantled, but I thought I would take some shots of it before it disappears.

Large beams protruding though pine trees, this of course caught my attention.

Also on Belmont Avenue.

The Urbanophile recently did an excellent post about sidewalks just like this one; this configuration may work in munchkin land, but I'm 6'4", and dude, this is just not cool. Taken on Sherman Drive, near Raymond Street.

The intersection of Meridian and Troy is on the city's south side; just a few miles south of downtown.

It's Winter in Fountain Square
It was nice for a winter day as I walked through Fountain Square, considering the day before was hovering around 0 degrees.
All kinds of interesting murals in the back of the buildings along the main arteries of the neighborhood.

Key Cinemas, You Will be Missed
Due most likely to the competition to the Landmark Theatre on the North side, economic conditions, and the fact that the building was falling apart, the Key Cinema theatre is now closed. This theatre didn't just show modern independent films, but on weekends would play retro films, and even hosted film festivals; I will definitely miss this theatre.

Here are some of my best memories and experiences while visiting 'The Key':
1. I have viewed almost all of Ed Wood Jr's repertoire (from Plan 9 to Jail Bait)
2. IMOCA hosted an Andy Warhol film festival there a few years back.
3. Vintage raunchy John Waters classics on the big screen!
4. Viddy Well my Little Droogies; yes they even pulled out A Clockwork Orange on occasion.
5. And many more that I can't think of at the moment.

Belmont and Morris on the near southwest side. This does the hoosier stereotype absolutely no favors ;-)

Haughville Biaaatch! Taken on Kentucky Avenue, near southwest side;which is interesting, since this area is technically not Haughville.

Fun With Experimentation
I've been on a bit of an experimentation kick lately; fussing with various settings and colors has the potential to make a dull shot more interesting.

Indianapolis Architecture - Lockerbie Marketplace
Once a Sears Roebuck and Company building, it is now home to several business including a Marsh supermarket. Built in 1929, it is a strong representation of Art Deco arcitecture, and resides in one of the oldest neighborhoods in Indianapolis.

Kevin mentioned this intersection a while commenting on a previous post. This shot still doesn't do justice as to how large this intersection is. The junction of Southeastern, English, and Rural Street.

Indianapolis Neighborhoods - Southeastern Avenue, English Avenue Part 1
This neighborhood is on the near southeast side of Indianapolis not far from Fountain Square. I took pictures of a stretch on Southeastern and English Avenue from Rural Street to State Avenue. The neighborhood is industrial in nature, and is a very old part of town with some history.
Oriental and Southeastern Avenue, looking toward Washington Street.

I could be mistaken, but I believe that Ivy Tech also uses this building for automotive training.

Detroit and Southeastern Avenue, there is a nice stretch of classic houses in this area.

Also at the intersection of Detroit and Southeastern.

When I was taking pictures, I heard the groaning of a large diesel engine. I followed the noise and was able to get this train engine. It Looks to be a pretty new engine to me; most of the ones I see are faded, dented, or have graffitti on them.

Indianapolis Relics - Tibbs Drive In
Not far from Tibbs ave. and Washinton St. is the Tibbs Drive In. The last operating drive in theatre in Indianapolis if you don't count the one in Clermont. The theatre has both old school speakers and an FM broadcasted frequency as a means of delivering audio to it's viewers. According to the sign, it will reopen on March 2, 2009.

Indianapolis Architecture - ?
I actually need a little help with this one; I have tried various sources (mainly Emporis and Indiana Historical Society) to locate data on this building, but with little success. I remember seeing a picture of this building in a street shot dating back to 1912 in a historical Indianapolis book, but there was no information there either.
The building resides on Maryland street, close to Pennsylvania Street and the Majestic Building. If anyone could share any information they might know about this building, I would be greatly appreciative.
The front of the building features a ghost sign of Omega Communications.

The side alley features another ghost sign.

The very back of the building.

Indianapolis Intersections - Morris, Plainfield, Vandalia
As most of you can probably guess, I love taking pictures of Infrastructure (ie. railroad bridges, underpasses, intersections, mediums that transport various forms of utilities, ect). Especially the odd ones; the older and weirder, the better. This one definitely falls into that category.
This is the joining of Morris Street, Plainfield Avenue, and Vandalia Avenue which is bisected by an ancient looking railroad bridge on the city's west side; you can see a map of how it's laid out here. This neighborhood is an industrial one, as is a large part of Indianapolis' near west side.
This bridge stands right in the middle of this 4-way intersection.

Indianapolis Relics - Longacre Park
Once a recreational park which featured a large swimming pool, has since become a mobile home park. I've had difficulty finding history on this place, and the only information I do have are anecdotal in nature from friends and members of my family. I'm not sure exactly when the park was established, but the railroad bridge arches indicate that they were built in 1902, and both my parents and grandparents enjoyed the place when it served the South side as a recreational place.
